Open and Closed Cell Sprayfoam Insulation

Why Sprayfoam?

1. Superior Air Sealant:

  • Spray Foam Insulation expands as it is applied, filling gaps, cracks, and crevices that might otherwise go unnoticed. This expansion creates a solid, seamless barrier that blocks air leaks. In contrast, fiberglass and cellulose can leave gaps around edges or in areas where installation is tricky, allowing drafts and heat loss.

  • Benefit: By preventing air leaks, spray foam significantly reduces heating and cooling costs. Your customers will notice more consistent temperatures inside their home and a decrease in their energy bills.

2. Higher Energy Efficiency:

  • Spray Foam has a higher R-value per inch compared to fiberglass and cellulose. This means it provides better insulation with less material.

    • Spray Foam R-value: Typically around R-6 to R-7 per inch (depending on type).

    • Fiberglass: Usually around R-3.5 to R-4 per inch.

    • Cellulose: Around R-3.5 per inch.

  • Benefit: With spray foam, your customers can achieve better thermal performance in a smaller space, leading to energy savings and improved comfort. It’s an excellent choice for homes with limited attic or wall space.

3. Moisture Resistance:

  • Spray Foam acts as a moisture barrier, preventing water from seeping into walls and attics. It’s ideal for damp climates or areas prone to humidity or leaks. Fiberglass and cellulose absorb moisture, which can cause mold growth, deterioration, and reduced insulation effectiveness over time.

  • Benefit: Spray foam helps prevent costly water damage, mold issues, and health concerns associated with mold or mildew growth.

4. Longevity & Durability:

  • Spray Foam doesn’t settle or degrade over time. Once applied, it stays intact and maintains its R-value. On the other hand, fiberglass can sag or compress over time, reducing its effectiveness. Cellulose can settle, leading to gaps and uneven coverage.

  • Benefit: Spray foam provides long-lasting protection. There’s no need to worry about re-insulating your home in a few years, unlike fiberglass or cellulose.

5. Noise Reduction:

  • Spray Foam not only insulates against heat but also helps with soundproofing. Its dense, solid structure helps reduce noise transmission from the outside or between rooms. While fiberglass and cellulose also offer some soundproofing qualities, spray foam does a superior job due to its airtight seal.

  • Benefit: This makes spray foam a great option for homeowners who want a quieter, more comfortable living environment.

6. Environmental Impact:

  • Spray Foam is available in eco-friendly versions that use water or other eco-friendly blowing agents, reducing its environmental impact. Some cellulose options are made from recycled paper, which is a sustainable choice. However, fiberglass tends to have a higher environmental footprint due to its manufacturing process and material sourcing.

  • Benefit: For environmentally-conscious customers, choosing spray foam with low global warming potential (GWP) or cellulose (made from recycled materials) can be an eco-friendly option.

7. Increased Home Value:

  • Homes with spray foam insulation are often more energy-efficient and comfortable, which can increase their market value. A properly insulated home with spray foam is seen as more desirable in the real estate market because of its efficiency, durability, and comfort.

  • Benefit: This means a better return on investment for homeowners, especially if they plan to sell their property down the line.
